A Guide to Naples Beaches

January 13th, 2014

Naples Beaches

Naples truly is a paradise for beach lovers. With over 25 miles of white sand extending from Fort Myers Beach in the north to Keewaydin Island in the south, it’s easy to find a spot to call your own. Apart from the occasional pass to inland bays, otherwise the Naples coastline is an uninterrupted stretch of soft, warm sand.

All beaches are open to the public and are reachable by parks or access points at the end of roads. Simply drive west and you will reach the beach. There is metered parking at the street access points and paid access at the parks.

Naples is a little different than many beach towns in that there is no boardwalk or retail along the beaches. You won’t find t-shirt shops, convenience stores or restaurants. Naples beaches are bordered by stunning single-family homes, condo buildings, parks and preserves, and just a few hotels.

Designated parks will offer facilities, activities and amenities like restrooms, concessions and water sports. You can always bring in your own cooler (alcoholic beverages are not permitted), beach chairs, and toys with you.

Here is a list of Naples area beaches that offer facilities and plenty of space for you and your family to spread out and soak in the natural beauty that the coast of Naples has to offer.

Naples Beach areas from north to south are:

  • Barefoot Beach – Collier County Park
  • Delnor-Wiggins – Florida State Park
  • Vanderbilt Beach – Collier Co. Park
  • Clam Pass Beach – Collier Co. Park
  • Lowdermilk Park – Naples City Park
  • Naples Beach & Pier – Naples City Park

Barefoot Beach Preserve

Barefoot Beach

Barefoot Beach is a hidden gem that for the most part, only locals know about. To get there turn south onto Barefoot Beach Blvd., which is about 100 yards from the western end of Bonita Beach Road. Take the long brick road all the way south until you arrive at the Barefoot Beach Park entrance. The park is 342 acres of undeveloped barrier island habitat. There are trails and a raised walkway that crisscrosses through the preserve. Rangers conduct guided canoe tours through the back-bay and you’re likely to see many friendly tortoises in the vegetation. There are 3 parking areas and the beach stretches all the way south to Wiggins Pass.

Facilities include: Showers, restrooms, snack bar, fishing ramps, picnic tables, fishing gear rental.

New Year’s Eve Events for Southwest Florida

December 18th, 2013

Naples New Year's Eve

New Year’s Eve 2013 in Southwest Florida includes events, parties, fireworks and even snow! With so much going on, choosing what to do is going to be a difficult task for sure. Plenty of bars and restaurants will be hosting their own New Year’s Eve events, but if you’re in the mood for something special, here is a list of area events that will ring in the New Year in grand fashion.

Naples New Year’s Eve Events

Celebrate the New Year Naples style with an evening of music, fun, fireworks and even snow! Third Street South comes alive to welcome 2014. The fireworks display will take place at the Naples Pier and starts at 7:30pm, leaving plenty of time for an early dinner before or a more elegant affair afterwards. And the earlier timing allows children a chance to partake in the celebration.

There will be live music at Fleischmann Courtyard and at many of the open-air restaurants in the Third Street South area.

Look for the snow to fall around 8:15pm. I know a lot of people come to Naples to escape the snow up north, but they all look forward to this time of the year just so they can watch it “snow” in downtown Naples. It might not be completely real, but the effect is beautiful and definitely something worth seeing!

Downtown Fort Myers New Year’s Eve

Presented by the River District Alliance, the annual Fort Myers New Year’s Eve Downtown Countdown helps tens of thousands of local revelers ring in the New Year in style. The 17th annual event starts at 8pm with live musical acts on multiple stages, a craft beer garden, and much more. A Kids Zone will feature bounce houses, ball pits, an obstacle course, giant slides, a rock climbing wall, and balloon typhoon.

As midnight approaches, the main stage will feature a countdown and a New Year’s Eve ball drop. When the clock strikes midnight a dazzling fireworks display will light up the sky over the Caloosahatchee River. The bands and DJs play long after the display, entertaining crowds until as late as 2am.

Fort Myers Beach New Year’s Eve

Come celebrate the birthday of the Town of Fort Myers Beach and New Year’s Eve at Time Square. The town’s 17th annual birthday party takes place from 1pm to 3pm with free live music, brownies, and cupcakes. More live music kicks in at 7pm to start the New Year’s celebration, which culminates with fireworks from the pier as well as the ball drop.

Be aware the bridge will be closed ONLY to oncoming traffic from midnight to 1:30am during the fireworks.

If you are in Southwest Florida for New Year’s Eve, have a great time enjoying the events and the warm Florida weather. We invite you stay at one of our six area hotels and resorts so you can be close to these wonderful New Year’s Eve events. Have a great 2014 and we hope to see you soon!

Top 5 Things To Do In Naples

July 19th, 2013

Things to do in Naples

People have been vacationing in Naples, Florida for decades, taking advantage of the weather and the area’s beautiful natural surroundings. But what if you’re visiting Naples for the first time, how will you know what the most popular attractions are in the area? We have put together a list of our Top 5 things to do in Naples to help you see the best the area has to offer.

Top 5 Things To Do In Naples, Florida

#5 Naples Zoo

The Naples Zoo is the perfect place to explore the animal kingdom. Come face to face with towering giraffes, speedy cheetahs, playful lemurs of Madagascar, African lions, fierce alligators and even a tiger. There are plenty of captivating exhibits to stop at while strolling along the mile long paved path. Don’t miss one of the zoo’s exciting animal shows, interactive activities and educational programs for all ages. For more information, visit www.NaplesZoo.com.

#4 Everglades Excursions

The eastern edge of Naples dissolves into the Everglades. Called the “River of Grass,” the Everglades boast many different types of eco-systems; swamps, dry areas called hammocks, the Big Cypress National Preserve and vast mangrove mazes. It’s hot, swampy, buggy and full of alligators, but it’s also one of the most amazing natural areas on the planet. You can tour Big Cypress National Preserve in a (gator-proof and nicely air conditioned) bus or get a little closer on a high-speed airboat ride or try one of the slower and more intimate jungle cruises through Everglades National Park. Stay at the Port of the Islands Everglades Adventure Resort and take advantage of the many tours they offer.

#3 Dolphin & Sunset Cruise

Naples Bay and the Gulf of Mexico are home to a large population of Bottlenose Dolphins. These friendly animals love to ride boat wakes and show off for clapping on-lookers. Here are a few companies that will take you through Naples Bay to watch the dolphins, view the mansions of Port Royal and then cruise into the Gulf for a famous Naples sunset.

#2 Shopping & Dining Districts

Naples is known for fantastic open-air restaurants and stylish boutique shopping. Areas like Naples’ Fifth Avenue South, 3rd Street South, Tin City, the Mercato and Bayfront are all must visit areas for a new Naples visitor.

#1 Naples Beaches

Of all the attractions that Naples offers, it’s the miles and miles of white sandy beaches that lure people to Naples from all over the world. Naples’ beaches treat guests to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With magical sunsets, calm Gulf waters and amazing seashells—the beaches are a Naples must. Beaches like Vanderbilt Beach, Naples Municipal Beach (Naples Pier), and Lowdermilk Park Beach are usually busier with tourists and locals. While other beaches, such as Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park & Beach and Clams Pass Beach Park are a little less populated, and more secluded.

There are so many great things to do in Naples that we couldn’t list them all, but the five listed above will give any first time visitor a well-rounded experience of what Naples is all about.

Come visit Naples, Florida…paradise is waiting.

See you under the sun!
